Hunger and malnutrition represent the greatest risk to health worldwide — greater than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. Today there are over 800 million malnourished individuals worldwide (30 million in the US alone). The World Health Organization states that such prevalent malnutrition is not due to a shortage of food but rather wastefulness. In fact, roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year gets lost or wasted.
Herein lies the purpose of The Social Contract Corporation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Through its partnerships with local businesses, The Social Contract collects nearly $10,000+ worth of foodstuffs annually that would otherwise have been thrown away by these supermarkets and restaurants. In coordination with government programs and charities, The Social Contract then distributes these foodstuffs to hundreds of food insecure families. Furthermore, TSC is committed to bettering the communities it operates in through marshaling dozens of volunteers to provide hundreds of hours of community service.
Currently, The Social Contract operates three branches in Maryland located in Ellicott City, Frederick and Clarksville. The Social Contract Corporation is an organization which provides dynamic community services and supplements the activities of existing community organizations.
